This Guide Isn't a Sales Pitch
We're writing this because homeowners in the Tri-Cities area deserve to know what to ask before signing anything — whether you hire K&H or someone else. Good contractors aren't threatened by informed customers. They welcome them.
Questions About the Quote
Is this an all-in price?
You want to know if permits, materials, labor, finishing, and cleanup are all included. A low base price with add-ons can cost more than a higher all-in price.
What exactly is included?
Ask specifically about: permits, base prep, concrete, reinforcement, forming, finishing, joint cutting, form removal, and cleanup.
Can the price change after the job starts?
Some contractors quote low and add costs for "unforeseen conditions." Ask upfront what would trigger a price change.
Is this a written quote or a verbal estimate?
Get everything in writing. A handshake agreement leaves you unprotected.
Questions About the Work
How will you handle drainage?
Proper grading is essential. If they don't mention water management, that's a concern.
What base preparation do you do?
Good concrete starts with a properly compacted base. Skip this step and you get settling and cracking.
What thickness will the concrete be?
Standard driveway thickness is 4 inches minimum. Some contractors pour thinner to save money.
What reinforcement will you use?
Wire mesh or rebar prevents cracking. Ask what they use and why.
What happens if weather delays the pour?
Rain on fresh concrete is a problem. A good contractor has a weather protocol.
